Washington: US First Lady Michelle Obama threatened to leave a Democratic Party fundraising event after she was repeatedly interrupted during her speech by a protester, who demanded equality for gays and lesbians.
Michelle was addressing a Democratic Party fundraiser in a private Kalorama home in Washington on late Tuesday when pro-LGBT rights individual standing at the front started shouting for an executive order on gay rights.
"One of the things that I don't do well is this," 49-year-old Michelle said. "Do you understand?"
Michelle, who was 12 minutes into her speech, resumed speaking after the protestor was taken out of the event.
According to a White House pool report, she left the lectern and moved over to the protester, saying "listen to me or you can take the mic, but I'm leaving. You all decide. You have one choice."
Crowd started shouting that they wanted the First Lady to stay. "You need to go!" said one woman near the protester. The protester was then escorted out, shouting "...lesbian looking for federal equality before I die." No television cameras were allowed inside the meeting.
