New Delhi: Almost three months after skeletal remains were recovered from Noida's Nithari village, the CBI has filed a chargesheet against prime accused Surendra Koli, Moninder Singh Pandher and a dismissed policewoman, Simranjeet Kaur.
The CBI has virtually given a clean chit to Pandher, absolving him of rape and murder charges. Pandher now faces only conspiracy charges and certain sections of the Immoral Trafficking Act.
CBI claims that Koli was the one who actually committed the murders and sexually assaulted children.
CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar has claimed that prime accused in the Nithari serial killings, Surendra Koli, used Payal's mobile phone after killing her, which is how the CBI tracked him.
"Surendra Koli, after killing Payal with her chunni (neck scarf), took away her mobile phone and used a new SIM card for his personal use," CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.
The details of the phone were taken from the mobile company and the International Mobile Equipment Number was identified.
"Later, the same 16-digit number was provided to all cell phone operators which gave details of the calls made from the equipment," Kumar was further quoted as saying.
When the phone was shown to Koli, he broke down and began "confessing" about how he raped and murdered Payal.
Arun Kumar has said that Surendra Koli also tried to eat the flesh of his victims and thus has declared him as suffering from necrophagia.
He also suffered from necrophilia which is a sexual attraction towards dead bodies.
However, this is not a psychological disorder, which might have given Koli a benefit of doubt in court
