Mayor P Karthiyayini has cautioned people buying land for house construction within the Corporation limits to check if the plot belonged to the government.
The Mayor said that she kept receiving complaints from the public about how they were getting cheated by realtors. She said that the people came to know about the fraud only when they approach the Corporation for water connection and other basic facilities.
Karthiyayini said that the zonal officers would be motivated to have an eye on such frauds and identify the land that belonged to the Corporation. “Soon, the Corporation name board would be displayed at the identified locations,” she said.
Such frauds mostly came to light at Shenbakkam, Ariyur, Konavattam, Idayansathu, Sitheri, Pallikuppam and Tharapadavedu areas, which were newly-added to the Corporation limits.
