The first batch of students of the collaborative programme between Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology (SNIST) and Vaughn Institute of Aeronautics and Technology have graduated on Wednesday. As many as 17 students of electronic engineering technology and 28 graduates in airline and airport management received their degrees. Speaking at the convocation ceremony here, executive director of SNIST, P Narasimha Reddy emphasized the importance of the niche course at under-graduate level, the first of its kind, to tap into the growing avionics sector. About 80 per cent of the students from the current batch have been placed at various aviation sector industries in private and public sectors, said the college management. The course includes a final semester project work apart from an internship. The course fee is `1.5 lakh per year in India and $ 25,000 in the US. The admissions to the course are based on AIEEE ranking and P.U.C or intermediate percentage of the candidates. Only 60 students will be chosen for the course every year.“Professors from Vaughn College teach 25 per cent of course work in India, instead of complete distance learning mode. In the third year of their course, students will pursue their final year at Vaughn institute in New York based on their academic performance. About 15 students from this batch have applied for it,” said John C Fitzpatrick, president of Vaughn College. The students are also offered fellowships once chosen for the program in the US, he added.
