Netflix’s crime drama series Breaking Bad is considered one of the greatest TV shows of all time, ruling hearts with its themes and unforgettable characters. But, who would have thought that the man who masterfully portrayed the morally ambiguous Walter White in Breaking Bad would also lend his voice to Lord Ram? It is strange but true.
However, there’s a twist. Bryan Cranston didn’t voice the version of Ramayana that 90s kids in India grew up watching on Cartoon Network. Instead, he lent his voice to the US release, where the animated film was heavily edited to make it easier for American audiences to understand the Indian mythological story.

Bryan Cranston took on the unexpected role of the Hindu god in the English-dubbed version of the animated film ‘The Prince of Light: The Legend of Ramayana’. This film, based on the Hindu epic Ramayana, was originally released in Hindi in 1993 titled ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’.
This action-adventure film, adapted from Valmiki’s Ramayana, blends three distinct animation styles – Manga from Japan, Disney from the US, and the Ravi Varma from India.
The film was directed by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan and Koichi Sasaki and was released in three languages – Hindi, English and Japanese. For the Hindi version, Arun Govil lent his voice to the animated character of Lord Ram, with Namrata Sawhney as Sita, Shakti Singh as Lakshman, Dilip Sinha as Hanuman and Amrish Puri as Raavan.

For the English version, which was released in the United States, Bryan Cranston voiced the lead character – Lord Ram, while Tom Wyner brought Ravana to life. Joining Cranston and Wyner in the English version was James Earl Jones, who is known for his iconic voice as Mufasa in The Lion King. Jones narrated the film.
