In the midst of raging crisis in the Samajwadi Party (SP) which is showing no sign of respite, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday sacked party state unit chief Shivpal Singh Yadav – sending a strong signal that party comes first.

With the escalation of war within SP, Shivpal backed by Amar Singh and Akhilesh's camp intensified their movement against each other on Sunday morning. The supporters of Akhilesh were seen burning effigies of Amar Singh and Shivpal.

Akhilesh, with whom Shivpal is engaged in a running feud over the last few months, has already made it clear in a letter to the Samajwadi Party boss and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav that he would be proceeding on his 'rath yatra' on November 3.

The political war intensified on Saturday after Samajwadi Party (SP) General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav wrote a letter to the party workers, warning that those who speak or protest against Akhilesh Yadav will not make it to the Assembly again.

* AUG 22, 2016: Amar Singh threatened to quit the party, alleging that he was being insulted, kept on 'mute' and sidelined following his return to the fold after six years.

* In MAY, 2016: SP rehabilitates him and sends him to Rajya Sabha.

* MARCH 2014: Joined Ajit Singh's RLD with Jayaprada and contested the 2014 Lok Sabha poll from Fatehpur Sikri but lost.

* In 2011: Amar Singh launched his party Rashtriya Lokmanch but fared poorly in the next year's state polls.

* FEB 2, 2010: Amar Singh, Jayaprada expelled from SP for 6 years on the charge anti-party activities.

* In 1996: Amar Singh switched from the Congress to the SP in 1996 and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha. He remained in the Upper House for almost two decades until his recent term ended in 2014.

In the past Akhilesh has said that Amar Singh's hold over his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, was "overweening and undesirable".
