Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is outraged by the German parliamentary delegation's report indicting Modi for rights violations. The CM, in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said that the matter must be taken up with the German ambassador.
In his letter Modi has also said that the delegation's observations on the human rights record of Gujarat after the 2002 riots were based on interactions on a single day's visit to Ahmedabad city. He said that their report implied that rule of law did not prevail in his state.
Modi claimed this has tarnished the image of not only the Chief Minister but also of Gujrat and the country. An annoyed Modi termed the German parliamentary delegation's statement calling him "persona non grata" for European Union (EU) countries as "malicious", "malignant" and "maleficent".
Pointing out that the delegation must tender its apology to him for the statement, Modi said the matter must be taken with the German ambassador. He wants the PM to direct the ministry of external affairs to "take up the issue with the German ambassador, who may be requested to ask the public officials to apologise".
Saying the statement "tarnished the image of the CM, the state of Gujarat and India", the letter especially objects to the "misuse" of media freedom by public officials of a foreign government to "tarnish image of an elected head of government".
Modi demands, "Either the officials should apologise or should issue a clarification in case they have not given such statements."
