New Delhi: After submitting his resignation to the UP Governor TV Rajeshwar, Mulayam Singh Yadav spoke to CNN-IBN. He blamed the Election Commission for his party's defeat.

On the main factors behind his party's defeat

The Election Commission is to be blamed for the party's defeat. The Samajwadi Party was pitted against the Election Commission.

On Election Commission

It was running a parallel government in Uttar Pradesh. The Election Commission violated the Constitution. It has damaged us. The Commission made full efforts to ensure the defeat of the Samajwadi Party. And it succeeded. Moreover, it had the full backing of Congress and BJP. EC is overstepping its brief and violating constitutional provisions. The Commission harmed the prospects of our party to a great extent. Our voters were chased away by security forces while they coaxed some others to cast their votes. The EC was fighting a battle with the Samajwadi Party.

On poll outcome

The people of UP have given their verdict. The Congress has been finished in this election. The fight was between the Samajwadi Party and the BSP. The verdict of people is not against SP, it's against the BJP and the Congress.

On the verdict of UP people

>I respect people's verdict. We thank the people for all the support that they have given us. The people of Uttar Pradesh have not been able to understand our policies completely. I will be working for the welfare of the people.

On his future plans

I am not going anywhere. I am going to stay in UP only. I will work for the welfare of UP people.

What's your reaction?
