KOCHI: The victim of the infamous Vithura sex scandal on Wednesday approached the Kerala High Court seeking a stay on trial proceedings in the cases registered in connection with the scandal. The cases registered in connection with Vithura scandal are being tried at the Kottayam additional sessions court and the the trial is scheduled to begin on Thursday. It was submitted in the petition that the she had to suffer acute mental trauma and misery at the hands of the accused and later due to the adverse publicity. The petitioner said that she was leading a secluded life, away from public glare. The victim, 29-year old now, got married with the intervention of her community. It was further submitted if she was subjected to repeated cross examination and forced to relive the gory memory of her experience, it would cause immense mental agony.  There are 22 cases in connection with the scandal. Of these, trial was conducted in one  case in 2007 and the special court had acquitted the accused. The appeal against this verdict is pending before the High Court. Another case was stayed by the Supreme Court on a petition by the accused concerned.  The victim had been served with summons to appear for giving evidence as prosecution witness in seven cases. The special court had made it clear that if she was not present to be examined as a witness, the court would be forced to issue warrant against her.
