BANGALORE: There are over a million people dying due to malaria every year.Taking the first step for a safer tomorrow, the city will witness a Kill Malaria campaign today.A campaign is aimed at spreading awareness about malaria and encourage preventive action.The campaign will see 300 students marching from Rajkumar Auditorium (Rajajinagar).The students will cover the nearby areas and spread awareness to the public.They will be educating the residents by informing them about the various preventions and causes for malaria.The campaign will be followed by a slum cleaning drive.To put to practise their own teachings, the students have volunteered to clean the surrounding slum areas.The campaign will be inaugurated by mayor Sharadamma and minister Suresh Kumar, today at 10.30 am at Rajkumar Auditorium (Rajajinagar, 2nd Block, RTO Complex).This will be supported by the presence of the health officer, Kapil Dev Pillai (BMC).The campaign will witness the participation of about 300 city school children and citizens from the locality.The campaign, organised by Godrej Hit, and in partnership with Bangalore Municipal Corporation is aimed at cleaning of localities, disseminating informative handouts and conducting street plays to spread awareness about prevention of malaria.The initiative was inaugurated in Mumbai last week.After Bangalore, the campaign will move to New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad.The initiative is expected to touch about 10 lakh citizens across India by reaching out to residential societies, schools and slums.
