KOCHI: Rotary Club of Cochin Downtown donated solar-powered water purifiers to schools and orphanages run by Auxillium Centres. The equipment was handed over to the beneficiaries by Rotary District Governor B Jayarajan in the presence of Jose Thattayil MLA at a function organised at Lotus8 Apartment Hotel, Nedumbassery on Sunday. The project, supported by Rotary Club of Wilmington USA through Rotary Matching Grant project, is aimed at providing clean and pure drinking water to children, and thus preventing water-borne diseases. The water purifiers are made using state-of-the-art technology with hybrid power of environment-friendly solar energy as well as electricity backup. The equipment is imported from the US and each cost approximately Rs 2.5 lakh per unit. The water purifiers will be installed in the Auxillium centres at Angamaly, Kattappana, Kottiyam and Kunnamangalam.
