Mumbai: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday received a report from the Maharashtra government listing all the details of the four missing men but the investigation has not yet confirmed the reports of their joining Iraq-based outfit Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, say sources.

The police had questioned families of the missing youth on Monday. A report was submitted to the Home Ministry in this regard.

The four men from Thane district have been missing since May and their families believed that they may have joined Iraqi extremist group ISIL.

The Special Branch of Thane Police had questioned family members, friends of all the four men.

They flew to Baghdad on May 23 as part of a group of pilgrims visiting religious shrines in Iraq. One of them called his family from Baghdad on May 24 and 25 and assured them that he was fine.

Police had seized hard disks, note books and other materials from the residence of the four men. Human trafficking angle was also being probed given that it is rampant in the area.

CNN-IBN had also accessed an official communication sent to all crime branch units and anti-terror cells warning them about ISIL and to remain alert during Ramzan. Last month, ISIL had declared the formation of a caliphate and asked terrorists across the world to support them.
