MADURAI: Police have prepared a list of 125 organised criminals gangs operating in different parts of the State as part of measures to check the crime rate in the State. Additional Director General of Police, (Law and Order) S George told Express that they have prepared a list of 125 organised criminals gangs in the State. “All these gangs operating in different districts were identified after a detailed probe into their activities...,” he said. Speaking at a meeting of DIGs here on Saturday, George instructed the officers to track the whereabouts and activities of each gang and also gather information about every member of these gangs. “For instance one gang may be based in Madurai, but their operation may extend up to Tiruchy. So officers have been ordered to keep a watch on gangs not only operating from their respective districts but also from other places,” said George. Similarly, instruction have also been given to record pictures of the members of the gang and their present position. Regarding the involvement of migrant labourers, who have past track record, in crimes, George emphasised the need to identify anti-social elements, who may try to escape the cops’ eyes by working in construction firms, industries and farm houses. To check the presence of such labourers, he advised the officers to collect details of labourers from their employees, managers or contractors. “The contractors and organisations should be advised to give details and ba-ckground of migrant labourers.” Calling upon the need to constantly review the security arrangements in banks and financial institutions, he wanted the officers to insist these establishments to instal CCTV cameras, burglar alarms on their premises and appoint security guards.
