BANGALORE: Lads from Bishop Cotton Boys’ School will represent India in Intelligent Space Settlement Design competition finale jointly organised by NASA and Boeing. Team of ten, comprising of students from Std XII were selected for the finals.“We are really thrilled that our school will be the only school from India representing at the finals. Students have worked tirelessly and have made use of computer softwares like MAYA, CAD for illustrations,” said Neelam Patil, Computer HOD.The team will be part of a bigger team called Rockdonnell that comprises students of schools from countries like Romania, UK and USA.Twelve teams will be competing in the finals. “The teams will be given a proposal 48 hours before the finale, to prepare and design intelligent space settlement pertinent according to the given request for proposal (RFP).” said Janardhan Mahadev, student and team member, Bishop Cotton Boys’School. The competition requires students to make a power point presentation on the given request for proposal. Competition will be held at Johnson Space Centre, HQ of NASA in Houston from July 29 until 1 August.The journey to the finale began when the school received a RFP in August 2010 to design a fusion settlement in the asteroid belt.The design and research papers were sent to NASA, where NASA further shorlisted them for the second round held in February in Gurgaon they competed against Asian countries, in this round they had to design a space shuttle service between earth and mars which qualified them for the final round in competition.
