KOCHI: Doctors saved the life of a 34 year old woman after conducting a rare endovascular surgery on her at a private hospital in the city.
Haseena Farooq of Alappuzha was admitted to the Sunrise Hospital at Kakkanad on April 22, after she collapsed suddenly due to a rupture in the abdominal part of aorta, the main blood vessel arising from the heart. As open surgery was very risky, a team of doctors led by Dr Vinod Thomas and Dr Renjukumar of Sunrise Hospital conducted a new form of treatment called endovascular surgery with implantation of stent graft. Twelve units of blood were required to replace the blood already lost by bleeding from aorta, the hospital authorities said.
