Google Meet Gets New Video Calling Features And UI Refresh: How It Works
Google Meet is getting new features and a UI refresh that is applicable across a wide range of devices and the update will be rolling out soon

Google is set to upgrade its video calling platform Google Meet app with a redesigned interface and a series of new features that were exclusive to the meeting sessions.

The new interface will be consistent across devices.

Users now get access to advanced features, on-the-go mode and emoji reactions while enjoying a consistent experience across video calls and scheduled meetings in the app.

The latest update will make Meet’s video calls look more like the meeting interface, with similar call control buttons at the bottom of the screen for easier access. Additionally, emoji reactions will also be available in group calls, along with stack effects like backgrounds and filters, making it easy to customise your appearance.

Users can now show they agree with an idea, celebrate a win, or react to a joke with just a tap without disrupting the conversation.

The new screen share feature allows users to present photos, videos, presentations, and other content during calls, making it useful for collaboration, catching up with friends, and providing remote tech support.

Google Meet now offers an on-the-go mode for Android and iOS, featuring an audio-only option with larger call control buttons.

The feature is designed for users who have to take calls while walking, driving, or using public transportation, with minimum distraction.

Other notable improvements include features like live captions, in more than 70 languages. The app now supports in-call messaging, allowing users to keep the conversation going with real-time chat directly in their video calls. This lets them share links and stay engaged even when they can’t talk out loud.

The updates for the Google Meet app for video calls will be rolled out over the next few months.

Users are advised to keep their Google Meet app updated to have access to the new features. In calls where participants use a different version of the app, the call will default to the older version.
