Kerala: After several U-turns and flip-flopping from one decision to another, Karunakaran has changed his mind all over again.
The leader of Democratic Indira Congress has finally agreed to merge his party with Congress after the elections.
DIC(K) President Muraleedharan and KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala have signed an agreement whereby the Congress party has given 17 seats to DIC(K).
On Thursday evening, the DIC(K) and Congress had, after a lot of haggling and bargaining, reached an agreement after days of negotiations and mediation by the Muslim League.
The understanding is that the two parties will work in collaboration with each other.
The Muslim League, which had helped bring about the understanding between the two parties, has agreed to give one seat to DIC(K) taking the total number of seats to 18.
The understanding has been reached after a lot of tension, with Karunakaran declaring on Friday morning that he was not ready for the merger.
Karunakaran was till the morning also protesting against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's leadership and claiming he was unhappy with the constituencies allotted to his party.
The Congress party has in fact denied Karunakaran his own seat - Maala.
Karunakaran had also earlier stated that he would not apologise for his statement at his party's Kochi meet, where he had called Congress a cremation ground.
On Wednesday the talks seemed to be breaking down with Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala saying DIC(K) was not welcome to the ruling United Democratic Front.
