KOCHI: It’s celebration time for the various Hindu communities in Kochi. Many homes have decked their houses with ‘Bomma kolus’. The sweets and other savouries are of course flowing out of all every house.The Bengal tradition and festive fervour of Durga puja have come alive at Rabindra Bhavan in Gandhi Nagar where the Bengalis are celebrating Durgashtami under the aegis of Kerala Bangla Sanskriti Sangha.Puja is being offered religiously to the colourful idols made by Bengali craftsmen who have come all the way from Kolkata. “We gave them raw materials such as wood, straw, bamboo, mud, but the finishing touch is done with the mud brought from the Ganges topped by paint. Cultural programmes are held after 8 pm in which men, women and children participate. People have come from Bengal to make drums and sweets also. Sandhi Puja will be offered after midnight. After the pujas the idols will be taken in a procession and immersed at Katari Bagh Ghat on Thursday.
