CHENNAI: Clicking the ‘like’ button on the US Consulate General-Chennai’s Facebook page may not further your cause in getting a visa faster, but it most certainly will ensure you have one great party, at least once a year. That much was easily apparent as they booked out the Cafe Coffee Day outlet in Ispahani Centre, just to celebrate the Facebook page’s second ‘anniversary’ with their fans. And as if Jennifer McIntyre, the vivacious Consul General here wasn’t enough to play the perfect host, they invited Kollywood actors Jeyam Ravi and Bharath to hand out a few goodies. “We’re really happy that all you have taken the time to get off Facebook and come here to celebrate this occasion with us,” said McIntyre, as she individually met an assortment of giggling women students, high schoolers and other people who are active followers of the Consulate’s FB page. After an initial round of greetings, Bharath was seen attempting to explain the new beefed-up look he was going to sport in his next movie, as the Consul listened, fascinated. As a follow up to their month long contests, over 50 prizes were handed out to some very excited winners, before the Consul and Bharath cut an enormous chocolate cake — “the quintessential party element”, as most agreed. “We are looking at building a broader connect with the regional population through thus medium. Not only do we get to keep people updated about the cultural events we organise but it also shows a very real and approachable side to the Consulate,” said a spokesperson with the US Consulate General.
