Manchester: Responding to reports of a summit meeting from the “Red Knights” group attempting to gain control of Manchester United, the owning Glazer family have announced once again that they have no intention of selling the club.
With debts piling up at the club, a group of well-to-do fans of the Red Devils are looking to purchase United and oust the current owners, who are growing more unpopular by the day.
The “Red Knights”, led by lifelong United fan Keith Harris and Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill, hope to try and force the Glazers to accept an offer of around £1billion.
More and more United fans have joined the ‘Green and Gold’ campaign to get the Glazers to sell the team and supporters of the movement were decked out in those colours at Wembley during the Carling Cup final on Sunday.
Despite all the support for the move amongst United fans, the Glazers, some of whom were in attendance during Manchester United’s 2-1 triumph on Sunday, are standing firm on their claim that their club will not be sold.
“Manchester United is not for sale,” said a spokesman for the Glazer family.
