Stable India-China Relations Tied To Normalcy At The Border, NSA Doval Tells Wang Yi
Doval emphasizes fostering mutual trust and creating conditions for improving India-China relations in bilateral talks with Wang Yi.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Thursday held a bilateral meeting with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi on Thursday, on the sidelines of the conclave of the national security advisors of the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) in St Petersburg.

The two sides reviewed the recent progress in border discussions, with India emphasising that stable India-China relations are crucial for the long-term welfare of both nations and essential for promoting regional peace and development.

Doval told Wang that both nations should focus on their own and common development. “The rapid development of 2.8 billion Indian and Chinese people will change the whole world,” Doval told Wang Yi.

Both sides agreed to uphold the consensus reached by their leaders, with India highlighting its commitment to fostering mutual understanding and trust.

India highlighted the need to create favourable conditions for improving bilateral relations and expressed its readiness to continue open communication moving forward.

Meanwhile, Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, said that China and India, which are ‘two ancient Eastern civilizations’ and ‘emerging developing countries’, must ‘choose unity and cooperation’.

“China and India should adhere to independence, choose unity and cooperation, and insist on mutual achievement and avoid mutual consumption,” Yi said.

“I believe that both sides have the wisdom and ability to view each other in the right light, properly handle differences with a pragmatic attitude, find the right way for two neighbouring major countries to get along with each other with constructive thinking, and push China-India relations back on the track of healthy, stable and sustainable development,” he further added, stressing that the world is going through a ‘turmoil’.
