Beijing: A beekeeper in China has a set a new Guinness World record after covering his body with almost 1.1 million crawling bees weighing a massive 109 kg.

Gao Bingguo, a 55-year-old beekeeper from Tai'an City, took the challenge on Monday by having beekeepers pour the insects onto his body.

He was stung over 2,000 times and his body temperature rose to over 60 degrees Celsius, but he survived the ordeal and set a new record, smashing the previous one of over 85kg of bees, metro.co.uk reported.

Dozens of queen bees were first attached in order to attract more of the honey-making insects. Gao who was wearing only his underpants later calmly smoked as thousands of bees crawled over his body to prevent them from swarming his lips.

Gao is no stranger to bees, having kept them for over 35 years. The process ended with Gao's entire body covered with 109kg of bees.

It is estimated that the number of bees on Gao at that moment was roughly equivalent to 1.1 million.
