As summers are here, people are trying different ways to beat the heat. Many cities are experiencing rising temperatures as we enter the month of May. Amid the soaring humidity, the demand for ice cream has seen a substantial increase in recent times. As per a recent survey conducted by online food delivery platform Swiggy, they found recurring orders for ice cream. Swiggy held an analysis on the ordering trends seen between March 1 and April 15, and found that a Mumbai man placed 141 ice cream orders, which had 310 items in them, in just a span of 45 days.
Swiggy’s recent reports on the ice cream trend have surprised many, as a Mumbai-based man ordered 310 items of ice cream in just 45 days. The reports also found that ice cream orders have spiked this summer as the food delivery platform experienced a 16 per cent rise in the demand for ice cream as compared to last year. With people going for ice creams to battle the scorching heat, chocolate has emerged as the undisputed king in terms of the most popular ice cream flavours. It was followed closely by mango, and other flavours in the top league include tender coconut, almond and vanilla.
Among the cities that ordered the highest number of ice creams, Mumbai tops the list with more fruit-based flavours like mango and coconut. The second spot is held by Hyderabad, with people going in for nuts-loaded ice creams. Swiggy reports saw an interesting trend that even though the demand for ice cream has significantly increased, people are choosing healthy options. This year, there was a 70 per cent increase in orders for vegan and guilt-free ice cream options compared to the previous year.
Swiggy reported that the maximum orders for ice creams were placed between the 7 pm and midnight slot, with more than 6.9 lakh orders during this time. Another popular one was the afternoon slot, from 11 am to 4 pm, where 4.6 lakh orders for ice creams were placed.
