Asha Parekh Shares REAL Story About Her 'Marriage' With Shammi Kapoor: 'He Was Having an Affair...'
It was rumoured that Asha Parekh and Shammi Kapoor got married. However, Asha revealed the real tale behind the rumour.

Yesteryear star Asha Parekh opened up about the rumour that she was married to Shammi Kapoor. The actress, speaking with Arbaaz Khan on his talk show, revealed that the rumour was first started by director Om Prakash. She recalled the actors were filming in Mahabaleshwar when the filmmaker decided to start the rumour. Asha added that she and Shammi played along. The rumour spread so wide that the person Shammi was dating at the point got upset as well.

“This is a long story. We were shooting in Mahabaleshwar and I don’t know what came upon Om Prakash ji, he declared that Shammi and I are married. Then there was a party at Mr Nasser Hussain’s place, people started whispering (about the marriage rumours). I said, ‘Yes, we are married.’ (Renowned journalist) Devyani Chaubal was also in the room. She heard the rumour,” she told Arbaaz on his show, The Invincibles Series.

When asked if Shammi had asked her not to deny the rumours, Asha said, “He said, ‘Don’t tell anything.’ He was playing a prank (with everyone).” She added, “At that time, he was having an affair with somebody. So that person got very upset.”

Asha Parekh and Shammi Kapoor worked on a few movies together. These included Teesri Manzil, Pagla Kahin Ka, Dil Deke Dekho and Jawan Mohabbat. Shammi was married to Geeta Bali in 1955 but she passed away in 1965​. Shammi remarried Neila Devi Gohil in 1969. On the other hand, Asha Parekh remained single.

Asha Parekh went on to star in several films before she emerged as a producer and director. As a producer, she worked on the TV shows Jyoti and Palaash Ke Phool. She went on to direct Dal Mein Kala Hain, Kora Kagaz and Kangan. Meanwhile, Shammi continued to act in more films before he took a break from the big screen. He was last seen in Tamasha, which released in 2011. Unfortunately, it was the same year that he passed away.
