Nature never fails to impress us. While many consider snakes scary creatures, their incredible ability to eat large meals also fascinates us. Recently, a video in which a snake swallowed an egg, much bigger than its own head, went viral on social media, leaving the viewers wondering how it was possible.
The video starts with a person holding an egg in their hand. Next, the snake begins to gulp down the large egg, stretching its jaws wide open. The video shared on X came with the caption, “Snake gulping an entire egg bigger than its head.”

Snakes have special jaw structures, allowing them to open their mouths wide.
A species of snake called the Gans’ egg-eater, found in Africa, is known for its incredible ability to swallow large bird eggs. Bruce Jayne, a biologist at the University of Cincinnati told Live Science that this snake holds the record for the widest mouth opening, even surpassing Burmese pythons.
This unique ability allows the Gans’ egg-eaters to eat prey three to four times larger than them, including creatures like rodents and amphibians. Interestingly, this snake has very few teeth, which is helpful because it prevents the liquid inside the eggs from spilling out when the serpent swallows them.
