Android users have one more security warning from the Indian government and probably the first they are getting in January. The alert comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In cautioning billions of Android phone users in the country. The warning post talks about vulnerabilities in the latest phones that can easily let hackers steal data from the affected phones.

“These vulnerabilities exist in Android due to flaws in the framework, system, Google Play system updates, Arm components, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek components, Unisoc components, Qualcomm components, and its closed-source components,” the CERT-In note from January 11 mentioned.

When you read through the names given here, the security issue, ranked with high severity rating, basically affects every Android smartphone user in the country. You are looking at the basic Android phones, going all the way to the premium Samsungs and Google’s available in the market. That’s not all, the security risk is a concern for Android versions 11, 12, 12L, 13 and even the latest 14. There is a detailed dossier on how these issues affect performance and give remote access to the bad actors.
