Patna: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday vowed to work towards ousting the ruling grand coalition led by Nitish Kumar from Bihar by 2020.
While addressing a public rally in Darbhanga district in the Mithilanchal region of the state, the UP CM said that Kumar was not able to see what his government has done in the last three months.
“My government banned all illegal slaughterhouses within a fortnight, launched anti-Romeo squads and started many developmental works. Now women feel safe in UP. What has Nitish done? Why is he not talking about triple talaq? We don’t differentiate on the basis of religion or caste,” he said.
“We will ensure BJP government in Bihar in 2020. I will fight for my party relentlessly to ensure ouster of the present government. I will visit every district of Bihar,” he added.
The UP CM also appealed to people to not vote on the basis of caste and focus on development.
Describing the three years of the Narendra Modi government as unparalleled, he said, “For the first time well planned schemes are being devised for youths, women, farmers and the poor in the society.”
The rally was also attended by other BJP leaders. Taunting Kumar, Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said that Kumar was so scared of Adityanath that he himself decided to visit Darbhanga a day before on Wednesday but addressed a gathering of ‘only’ 700 and Adityanath addressed a rally of more than one lakh people.
Accusing Kumar of ignoring corruption charges against Lalu Prasad, he said, “I am confident that Yogi-Modi combine will ensure thumping victory for the BJP in 2019 general election.”
State BJP president Nityanand Rai also attended the rally. Rebel BJP leader and MP from Darbhanga, Kirti Azad, was conspicuously absent from the rally.
BJP is hoping that Adityanath’s visit will enthuse the rank and file of the party which is trying to gain grounds in the state after losing the last Assembly election. Many BJP leaders admitted that party’s stunning performance in the neighbouring UP has had positive impact in Bihar and his personal presence here would further bolster the party.
The party chose Darbhanga for the rally as traditionally it has been the stronghold of the RJD which is part of the coalition government with the JD(U).
Political analysts say that the BJP meticulously planned Adityanath’s visit to Mithilanchal considering higher concentration of the minority community and any effort to boost party’s presence here would directly damage Muslim-Yadav (MY) arithmetic of the RJD.
JD(U) spokesman Rajeev Ranjan accused the BJP of trying to break the social harmony of the state by inviting Adityanath.
