Phase out AFSPA from J&K: NC
The NC said on Friday that removing security bunkers from different areas of the state would help to bring the youth in the mainstream.

Jammu: The ruling National Conference on Friday batted for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir in a phased manner. "We call for revocation of AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir in phased manner," senior NC leader Mustafa Kamal said while speaking on the motion of thanks on Governor's address in the Assembly.

He said removing security bunkers from different areas of the state would help to bring the youth in the mainstream.

"Time has come now when there is need to roll-back the anti-militancy measures," he said. He also stressed on concerted efforts between India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue. In this connection, he mentioned the participation of Union Minister for Trade Anand Sharma in trade fair in Pakistan, adding that this shows India's keenness for improving its relations with Pakistan.

He said the main focus should be on political resolution of the Kashmir imbroglio for bringing lasting peace in the region especially in J&K.

Another NC leader Chowdhry Mohammad Ramzan hailed the coalition government for its performance during its last three years stint.

He appreciated the Government for using e-Governance in tendering of works contracts adding that it would bring transparency and accountability in the working of various departments.

Congress's GM Saroori thanked the Union Government for providing liberal financial assistance to the state for its development. He also stressed the need for construction of Singhpora-Sintham tunnel to serve as an alternate highway from Jammu to Srinagar. He demanded release of Rs 100 crore earmarked in the current year s budget for extremely backward pockets of the state, adding that Finance Commission and Bloeria Commission have also declared the entire erstwhile Doda district as backward area.

He called for expeditious completion of polls to 3-tier Panchayati Raj System in the state so that the Rs 700 crore aid, from the Centre, which is withheld, could be utilised for the betterment and development of the state.
