Orlando Bloom might be ready to return to Middle-earth, and fans are buzzing with excitement. The actor, who became an international star as the elven archer Legolas, is now hinting that he’d be more than willing to return to the world of hobbits, wizards and epic battles. With talks of new Lord of the Rings movies already in motion, the nostalgia is kicking in for fans of the franchise. Just imagine Bloom donning his Legolas gear once again, side by side with old castmates like Ian McKellen. This thrilling possibility follows the announcement that McKellen himself is keen on reprising his iconic role as Gandalf, reigniting hopes that more familiar faces could be involved in the upcoming films.
When Bloom was asked by Variety about rejoining the Tolkien universe, he responded by saying, “Oh, man, those things are amazing. Yeah. I don’t know how they’d do it. I guess with AI you can do anything these days. But, if Pete [Peter Jackson] says jump, I say, ‘how high?’ I mean, he started my whole career.”
The first of the new films, Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, will reportedly be directed by Andy Serkis, who will also reprise his role as the beloved Gollum/Smeagol. Meanwhile, Peter Jackson, who directed the original trilogy, is back as a producer along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The new series of films is set to begin in 2026, starting with this exciting new chapter.
Bloom also mentioned to Variety that, while he’s not entirely sure what’s planned for the new films, he did have a conversation with Serkis about it.
Although Warner Bros. is still in the development phase, McKellen had earlier expressed his excitement about possibly returning as Gandalf, saying, “I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him. When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So they better be quick,” reports Variety.
As for Bloom, he recalled his time in Lord of the Rings during his appearance at the Toronto Film Festival Studio, where he was promoting his new film, The Cut. Directed by Sean Ellis and co-starring John Turturro and Caitríona Balfe, the boxing drama made its world premiere on September 5 at the festival.
