Bhopal: Former union minister and Madhya Pradesh senior Congress leader Aslam Sher Khan has announced that he would form Rashtriya Congress Swayamsevak Sangh.
“I will train around one lakh volunteers in MP and Chhattisgarh,” Khan told the media.
Referring to the recent loss of ‘secular forces’ in Uttar Pradesh, he said that the existent model of secularism by backing Muslims has been defeated badly in UP and a new model is required.
Khan is a former international level hockey player and was part of World Cup winning Indian team in 1975 at Kuala Lumpur and member of Munich Olympic team in 1972. His father Ahmed Sher Khan took part in Berlin Olympics in 1936 for India.
Khan said that he would bring people from all sections of the society under one platform. They are people who support for Congress ideologically but do not wish to join active politics, he said.
Khan, who had won his first Lok Sabha election on Congress ticket in 1984, accepted that Congress had witnessed sharp erosion in the base over the years and said that politics is now tilted heavily towards one ideology.
Khan had joined BJP briefly in mid-1990s but resigned in 1999.
Khan has been away from the political limelight for a long time. In 2015, he announced the formation of a separate party by enrolling backward Muslims and dalits but it did not take off.
