New Delhi: With polling for assembly elections in the states of Manipur, Punjab and Uttarakhand completed, the Election Commission on Tuesday decided to relax the conditions for model code of conduct, allowing ministers to undertake tours and review ongoing projects.
In an order on Tuesday, the Commission said the ministers in these states have now been allowed to tour districts and take officials, besides reviewing and implementing ongoing programmes.
The Election Commission has also allowed calling of review meeting of officers at headquarters and in the field, except the officers who are on election duty.
The poll body has also henceforth allowed states for calling, evaluation and finalisation of bids and award of contracts thereof.
The directions come in the wake of demands from various states that certain ongoing projects would be held up in the intervening period of elections.
The EC had also stopped certain ongoing projects in key areas of these states following complaints from opposition parties there.
The governments in these states had also asked the Commission's for its permission in continuing such projects which were held up following complaints of alleged poll code violations.
