Bhopal: A book published by the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh has called the first Prime of India Jawaharlal Nehru ‘greedy of power’, triggering angry responses from the Congress.
The book titled ‘Mere Deendayal’ was distributed during a quiz programme organised by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
The book is named after Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, one of the prominent faces of Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
“Pandit Nehru aur Jinnah ke satta ke lalach aur Angrezon ki chaal me aa jane se Bharatvasiyon ka Akhand Bharat ka sapna pura nahin ho saka aur khnadit Bharat ko azadi mili (Owing to Nehru and Jinnah’s greed for power and the gimmicks of the British, the dream of an undivided India’s freedom could not materialise),” book said while referring to Upadhyay’s views.
This elicited a sharp response from the Congress. “The public of the country would offer fitting reply to BJP’s conspiracies for misleading the youth,” Senior Congress leader Ajay Singh said.
“Deendayal Upadhyay had neither any role to play in India’s freedom struggle not in the rebuilding of the nation while Pt Nehru played vital role in freedom struggle and laid the foundation of a modern nation,” he added.
BJP spokesperson Rajnish Agrawal tried to downplay the controversy. “Each and every personality has his contribution in the history but when we talk about present day challenges and issues, certain leaders of the past are seen in the dock,” he said, adding the said remarks should be seen in the context of that particular era.
Congress spokesperson KK Mishra termed this a conspiracy of RSS while using BJYM face. Seeking to know the contribution of Deendayal Upadhyay for the nation, Mishra claimed that Congress would sternly counter such unwanted attempts.
