New Delhi: In a big relief to former Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari, an RTI application reveals there is no Income Tax probe pending against him.
Gadkari had to lose his chair as the BJP chief after the Income Tax department alleged forgery in his company Purti Power and Sugar Limited's dealings.
The Income Tax authorities created unease for Gadkari and his camp in 2012 when they conducted on-field inquiries on some "shell" companies which had invested in the BJP's leader Purti Power and Sugar Limited.
Gadkari, who was then the BJP President lost out the opportunity to be re-elected as there was no consensus amongst the BJP cadre after these allegations made by the Income Tax department.
Gadkari had come out with a prompt statement then condemning the inquiries by the I-T authorities as "calculated, mischievous and politically motivated".
Gadkari's Purti group had been under scrutiny with allegations of fake addresses and financial irregularities. The Mumbai Income Tax department in its preliminary probe had found that most of the companies with registered addresses were fake addresses.
