Talisman Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has signed an extension with Real Madrid, which will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu for another year, until the end of the 2024-25 season.

The extension means that Madrid will secure his services for the 13th year in a row, after signing on the Croatian from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.

He has also been named as the captain of the Los Blancos for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Modric, now 38, has been a pivotal cog of the Spanish giants’ midfield, and has won six Champions Leagues and four LaLiga titles with Madrid — with a joint-record total of 26 trophies at the club.

The Croatian is also one of the five players who have managed to win 6 European Cups and has the highest number of titles in the history of the club.

Modrić has played 534 matches for Real Madrid, scoring 39 goals, and is an international for Croatia, with whom he has played 178 matches and holds the all-time record for international caps.

Modric’s future with the Los Blancos was a major point of discussion coming into the season, following Real Madrid’s triumph in the UEFA Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.

But, manager Carlo Ancelotti reinstated his belief and faith in the aging Croatian.

“I’ve never had a problem with Modric,” coach Carlo Ancelotti said this month. “As well as being a top player, one of the best in the world, he’s even more spectacular as a person. We’ve never had a problem, and we never will.”
