Jorhat: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's former press adviser Debo Kumar Bora was killed and his wife, son, driver and PSO injured when their car hit a stationary truck in upper Assam's Golaghat district. Bora was travelling overnight to arrange Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's press conference in Jorhat, Congress sources said.
Bora's wife, who received serious injuries, son, driver and PSO were admitted to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital after the accident at Rongajan near the Kaziranga National Park around 2.20 am, official sources said. Conveying his condolence to the bereaved family, Gogoi, to whom Bora was attached as press advisor for the last ten years, described him as a dedicated Congress worker.
Bora was a front-ranking leader of the anti-foreigners agitation in Assam and then agriculture minister in the Prafulla Kumar Mahanta-led AGP government between 1985-91. After the defeat of the AGP, he was editor of the highly popular Assamese newspaper Dainik Janambhumi. He later joined the Congress.
Various political parties, including the AGP, condoled Bora's death. The poll campaign in Jorhat district was cancelled. Bora's body was taken to his home town Titabor in Jorhat district.
