WTC 2023-25 Points Table: Australia Take Top Spot Again After Dominant 8-Wicket Win Over Pakistan
Australia rose up to the top spot in the WTC table after they swept the series against Pakistan 3-0 with a dominant 8-wicket victory on Saturday

Australia once again raced to the top of the WTC Standings for 2023-2025 after a dominant win against Pakistan in the third Test of their series.

David Warner was denied the chance to score the match-winning runs in his final test but contributed 57 as Australia cantered to their victory target of 130 runs to beat Pakistan by eight wickets and sweep the series 3-0 on Saturday.

Pakistan, looking to end a run of 16 successive losses in Australia since 1995, had added 47 runs to their overnight tally at the cost of their final three wickets, to be dismissed for 115 an hour before lunch.

As in the second test in Melbourne, Pakistan had only their own batting frailties to blame for missing out on the chance to snap their long losing streak in Australia.

Meanwhile, we will see some changes in the points table once again as India will be set to take on England in a five-Test match series later on in this month.

India qualified for the finals of the first two editions of the World Test Championships but failed to lift the Test mace, however, the win in Cape Town will boost their morale in the ongoing cycle.

Australia on the other hand bid farewell to their talisman opener David Warner, who has bowed out of the game in the Test format, and will now be in the lookout to find a suitable replacement for him in the position.

Warner last week also announced his retirement from one-day international cricket, but is expected to continue playing T20s. He departed the red-ball game after plundering 8,786 runs at an average of 44.60, with a strike rate of 70.20, blasting 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries.

“It’s pretty much a dream come true. You win 3-0 and cap off what’s been a great 18 months to 2 years for the Australian cricket team. World Test Championship win, Ashes series draw and then the World Cup. To come here and finish 3-0 is an outstanding achievement,” Warner said at the presentation after his final Test.

“I’m proud to be with a bunch of great cricketers here. These guys, they work their backsides off, the engine room – the three big quicks plus Mitchell Marsh – they work tirelessly in the nets and the gym. Credit to them, the physios, the staff behind that … is outstanding. You look at them, they are amazing, I don’t have to face them ever again in the nets, which I don’t do anyway, so that helps,” he added.
