A horrific case in Kerala has sent shockwaves where a woman has been found guilty for allowing her lovers to sexually abuse her two minor daughters.

A Special Fast Track Court has sentenced the Thiruvananthapuram women to 40 years and 6 months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 for letting her live-in partners to rape her minor daughters.

The Court in its order noted that the accused brought shame to motherhood and deserves no apology.

How the Crime Unfolded?

The crime was reportedly committed between March 2018 and September 2019. The women left her husband, who was mentally ill, to stay with her two lovers. At that time, her daughters were aged 11 and 7.

When the first lover Shishupalan, who is also the first accused, was with the woman, he brutally abused the seven-year-old minor while she was studying in Class I.

“At that time, the victim told the entire incident to the accused but she did not do anything and she helped the other lover to abuse the victim,” Special Public Prosecutor RS Vijay Mohan told ANI.

The mother, reportedly, brought the child to his house several times, and assaulted the minor in the mother’s presence.

When the victim’s eleven-year-old sister came home, the child informed her about the abuse.

However, Shishupalan didn’t stopped. He also abused the elder child, who was 11. The two children didn’t disclose the information because he threatened them.

The incident came to light when the elder sister escaped from the house with the younger one and went to their grandmother’s house. The grandmother disclosed the incident and moved them to a children’s home. The children recounted the incident during the counselling held there as well.

The court found that Shishupalan raped the girl, resulting in injuries to her private parts. The girl was sexually assaulted by the accused several times with the connivance of her mother during 2018 and 2019.

One of the daughters was also sexually assaulted by another lover and a separate case in the matter is being heard.

What the Court Said?

Thiruvananthapuram Fast-Track Special Judge R Rekha sentenced the woman to 40 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case. The court examined 22 witnesses and 33 documents were submitted in the case.

The Ayiroor-native was accused of turning a blind eye and later facilitating the rape of her younger daughter by her lover.

According to Special public Prosecutor R S Vijay Mohan, the mother will serve 40 years, which is the highest of the varying jail terms. The trial was held against the mother alone as the prime accused Shishupalan died by suicide during trial.
