Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on Sunday, will inaugurate the second Vande Bharat on the Varanasi-New Delhi route, giving key rail projects to the regions. He will also inaugurate the second edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam and flag off the Kanyakumari-Varanasi Tamil Sangamam train.
The PM will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of 37 projects valued worth over Rs 19,000 crore for development of Varanasi and the Purvanchal region.

The key rail projects in the region that will be inaugurated:
- 2nd Vande Bharat on Varanasi-New Delhi route: New Delhi to Varanasi was the first route for Vande Bharat Express and then train 18 in 2019. After four years, Prime Minister will launch another Vande Bharat on the same route. Apart from a gift for people of Varanasi, it also endorses the claims of Railways that Vande Bharat is loved by rail passengers. On the basis of the current demand on the route, it was decided to launch another train.The existing Vande Bharat from New Delhi to Varanasi leaves at 6am, while returns at 3pm from Varanasi. The new train will depart from Varanasi in the morning hours and will return in the evening.
- Indra-Dohrighat gauge conversion project: A 34.37-km section has been converted to broad gauge which will help areas get better connectivity. The section has also been electrified. The Rs 213-crore project will be inaugurated by PM Modi.
- MEMU train service between Dohrighat and Mau station.
- Ballia-Ghazipur City doubling project: It will be dedicated to the nation. The project cost is Rs 564 crore and it will cover 65 km. It will cover Ballia and Ghazipur districts and enhance the line capacity of the section.
- 10,000th locomotive built at Varanasi locomotive works.
- Inauguration of Railway Claims Tribunal.
- Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay-New Bhaupur Dedicated Freight Corridor: Another project to be dedicated to the nation will be the freight corridor built at a cost of Rs 10,903 crore. It will cover 402 km across Chandauli, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat. It has the capacity to run goods train at 100kmph.
- A 1.5-km-long bypass chord line at Zafarabad Junction station, connecting Jaunpur Junction to Janupur City station will also be dedicated to the nation. Built at a cost of Rs 80 crore, it will provide flexibility of movement of trains.
KASHI TAMIL SANGAMAM, VIKSIT BHARAT EVENT
Modi, who will reach on Sunday afternoon, will be welcomed by Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, after which he will spend about 25 hours in Varanasi, an official statement said here. On the first day of his visit to Varanasi, Modi will launch the second edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam in the evening at the Namo Ghat. At this event, he will flag off the Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express, which is to ply between Kanyakumari and Varanasi.
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam, which will be held from December 17-31, will witness the participation of 1,400 dignitaries from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, who will visit Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya, it said.
On Monday, Modi will participate in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra programme at Barki Gram Sabha of Sewapuri development block.
