NSA Doval Meets Visiting Australian Deputy PM Marles, Foreign Minister Wong in Delhi
Australian Deputy PM and Foreign Minister meet National Security Advisor Doval in New Delhi. Discussed global issues, security cooperation, shared values

Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Tuesday met with the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval in New Delhi to discuss several issues including global and regional developments, sources said.

They said security and defence cooperation between Australia and India were discussed during the meeting. The two sides also talked about challenges and opportunities in areas such as maritime and space, which are part of the Global Commons.

This meeting comes a day after ​Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held the second India-Australia 2+2 Defence and Foreign Ministerial Dialogue with Deputy PM and Defence Minister oMarles and Foreign Minister Wong in the national capital. The ministers exchanged views on deepening multifaceted ties, including in areas of defence and security, trade and investment.

In today’s meeting, sources said the leaders emphasised the shared values and heritage between the two countries, which is the foundation for advancing common strategic interests. They also highlighted the importance of helping countries in the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN, Africa, Global South, and Pacific Islands to achieve their development goals in a sustainable way.

During their meeting, Marles expressed his admiration for the positive sentiments that cricketers from both India and Australia have for one another. The National Security Advisor congratulated the leaders on Australia’s victory in the World Cup Cricket finals and praised the talent and sportsmanship of both teams.
