Aamer Jamal made a memorable entry into Test cricket with a six-fer on debut for Pakistan in the ongoing contest against Australia in Perth. Jamal was picked in the side with Pakistan missing the services of star pacer Naseem Shah who is recovering from an injury.
A few years back, with his career going nowhere, a disheartened Jamal took a car on bank lease to work as a taxi driver so he could support his family in Pakistan.

“Struggle has helped me become punctual, value things more,” Jamal said in a video shared by Pakistan Cricket Board. “When you get something without earning it, you start taking it for granted. So the journey taught me there are no shortcuts in life, you have to go through a process.”
“I never let go of any chance, I played U19 cricket in 2014 but after that for four years, didn’t play any cricket. My first-class debut was in 2018 and before that played 1-2 seasons in grade cricket. I didn’t play regularly either because my profile wasn’t strong enough. I got disheartened during that phase,” he added.
Jamal, who took 6/111 in Australia’s first innings in Perth, said he had little time to spare between driving cab and working on his skills.
“A guy approached me to helped start playing club cricket in Australia. During that time, I got to know about an U-23 Pakistan tour and decided to leave the season mid-way. I thought maybe I will get to play in Grad 2 but they didn’t even pick me in the team,” Jamal said.
“I got a car on bank lease to support family. I used to get up 5 am in the morning and get online around that time. I used to drive till 10:30 am. From 11 to 1, I used to practice my bowling. Then again I used to go online from 2-7 to complete the remaining rides,” he added.
