ChatGPT Diagnoses Child’s Rare Condition That 17 Doctors Could Not, Here is What Happened
Here is how ChatGPT helped in diagnosing a child's rare neurological condition that 17 doctors could not.

There is no doubt about it when we say that Artificial intelligence has revolutionised industries. It has been growing on an unprecedented scale in the past few years. From writing original articles on any topic and clearing entrance exams on ChatGPT to creating artificial yet accurate images of imaginary circumstances, AI is making a mark everywhere. Now, a woman decided to use it in order to make a diagnosis for her four-year-old son, who was suffering from toothache and was also not growing in height. The boy has been identified as Alex. His mother, Courtney, spoke to Today.com. She said, “I have to give him Motrin (pain relieving drug) every day, or he has these gigantic meltdowns. If he had Motrin, he was totally fine.”

It all started during the pandemic when Alex started to chew things which caused him pain. This is how Courtney was convinced to look for a doctor. For three years, she could not find a solution to her son’s pain and several other symptoms. “We saw so many doctors. We ended up in the ER at one point. I kept pushing. I really spent the night on the (computer). going through all these things,” she explained.

A little after this, she realised that Alex had stopped growing taller.

After visiting 17 doctors and still being unable to find any solution, Courtney decided to take help from ChatGPT. After typing the symptoms on the AI site, she found that Alex had been suffering from a rare neurological condition called ‘tethered cord syndrome.’ “I went line by line of everything that was in his (MRI notes) and plugged it into ChatGPT. I put the note in there about. How he wouldn’t sit crisscross applesauce. To me, that was a huge trigger (that) a structural thing could be wrong,” she explained.

Then, she scheduled an appointment with a neurosurgeon and told her all that she suspected. The doctor researched all the reports and understood his condition.

A week ago, Alex underwent a surgery for his condition. Seems like, not ChatGPT can also help in saving lives.
