Author and Screenwriter Anu Singh Choudhary will script history for herself second time in a row as she will be part of the jury at the prestigious Sir Peter Ustinov Scriptwriting Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards.
Set to take place in New York City on November 20, the International Emmy Awards features three Indian actors nominated, including Shefali Shah (for Delhi Crime season 2), Jim Sarbh (for Rocket Boys) and Vir Das (for his comedy special Vir Das: Landing).
At the International Emmy Awards, Anu Singh Choudhary, known for her screenwriting work in Emmys-nominated Sushmita Sen-led Aarya franchise, Hansal Mehta’s netflix drama Scoop and the acclaimed Disney Plus Hotstar series Grahan, is a part of the jury set up to confer the Sir Peter Ustinov Television Scriptwriting Award, instituted by The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation. It is designed to motivate non-American novice writers under the age of 30 and, unlike other awards at the Emmys, it is to identify, encourage and recognise a new writing talent in TV writing.
Anu Singh Choudhary said it is an honour to be a part of the jury that consists of writers and creators from across the globe. “There is no bigger joy for a writer than to get to read and engage with the scripts of some very talented young writers from across the world. I have learnt so much about the craft just by reading some of these scripts as part of my jury duty. More power to these writers, I would say. I hope they are further recognised and appreciated for the hard work and passion that they put on paper, which eventually becomes the magic that we see on screen. To be on a jury for a screenwriting award at the International Emmys is the best compliment and recognition that I have received as a screenwriter,” the screenwriter said in an email statement from New York.
The 51st International Emmy Awards will also be honouring producer Ekta Kapoor with the prestigious International Emmy Directorate Award, the first Indian filmmaker to receive this recognition. Anu said it is a proud moment for the country, which can become an even special day for other Indian artistes nominated at the awards win big. “Ektaa Kapoor will be receiving the Directorate Award this year at the International Emmy’s, an award reserved exclusively for the trailblazers in the world of TV. That itself speaks of the power that Indian TV holds. And then there are other nominations too (Shefali Shah, Jim Sarbh, Vir Das). These nominations feature 56 candidates from 20 countries across 14 categories. Imagine the competition! So I will be screaming my lungs out for all of them, cheering for them. They are indeed paving the path for more and more Indian stories to be recognised at the global stage,” she added.
