Govinda has enjoyed massive stardom in Bollywood in his prime. This superstardom also came with a lot of female attention. In a recent chat, Govinda’s wife, Sunita, opened up about how this female attention on her husband affected her and said that it takes a lot of security to be an actor’s wife.
Sunita appeared on Timeout with Ankit and said, “To be a hero’s wife, aapko dil mein itna bada patthar rakhna padega ya toh aap shadi na karo hero se (you have to have a heart of stone or you don’t marry a hero).” Sunita said that the female attention didn’t bother her as even if things were happening, Govinda came home to her every night.
She said, “Mereko farak nahi padta (It didn’t affect me). You have to be very confident in yourself. Abhi aadmi hai voh, aap aisa nahi bol sakte gaay hai koi aadmi. Hota hoga. Theek hai na, ghoom fir ke raat ko ghar hi aa jata hai na. (He is a man. You can’t say he is a cow. Things might be happening. It is okay, he came back home at night.)”
Veteran actor Govinda may have stepped away from films since 2019, but there was a time when audiences eagerly anticipated his new releases. During the 80s and 90s, Govinda was considered one of Bollywood’s leading actors. However, over time, his career trajectory began to decline. His last successful film at the box office was Partner, which came out in 2007.
After 2007, Govinda was unable to deliver another box office hit. He appeared in a total of 13 films following Partner, but all of them, including low-budget projects like Rangeela Raja failed commercially. According to Box Office India, movies released after 2007 such as Rangeela Raja, Friday, Aa Gaya Hero, Happy Ending, Kill Dil, Deewana Main Deewana, Loot, Naughty @40, Raavan, Do Knot Disturb, Life Partner, Chala Tala Chal, and Money Hai To Honey Hai were all flops and disasters at the box office.
Despite this, Govinda carved out a significant place for himself with his powerful acting, and the level of stardom he achieved is something few actors can match.
