The filming for the forthcoming action film Afterburn has begun. Variety reports that Dave Bautista, Samuel L. Jackson, Olga Kurylenko and Kristofer Hivju will feature in the movie. Under the direction of J.J. Perry, the plot tells a story set in a dystopian future brought on by solar flares. Matthew Johnson and Nimrod Antal adapted Afterburn for the movie from the same-titled Red 5 Comics series.
Producers of the film are Steve Richards of Endurance Media and Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe of Original Film. Bautista will produce for Dogbone Entertainment alongside Jonathan Meisner and Chris Milburn. Black Bear will continue to offer the movie in Cannes after introducing it to buyers at the EFM earlier this year. CAA Media Finance is managing the US rights to the picture.
Following ex-soldier Jake (Bautista), who works as a treasure hunter retrieving priceless items from the old world for influential clientele, Afterburn is set 10 years after a solar flare destroyed technology worldwide. His most recent task is to work with Drea, a freedom fighter played by Kurylenko, to retrieve the Mona Lisa before a deranged warlord does.
Perry, who most recently completed filming Lionsgate’s The Killer’s Game, which starred Bautista as well, will helm the picture. Perry is well-known for his work as a stunt coordinator and second-unit director on the John Wick and Fast & Furious movies.
The producers have been working on the plot for a long time; they attempted to put it into production back in 2018. After six years, it has new life and distinct components.
Bautista is well-known in the WWE and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having played Drax in multiple films before departing. However, Bautista has a long history in the industry and an extensive filmography.
You may have watched some of his most well-known films, such as Blade Runner 2049, Hotel Artemis, Stuber, My Spy, House of the Rising Sun, Spectre, Riddick, Heist and more. He was also a member of the Dune cast and had a leading role in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. He even had a role in the Knock at the Cabin movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
Jackson was the other actor that confirmed his involvement with the movie. He plays a freedom fighter named Valentine. Jackson has a close relationship with the MCU, having spent more than ten years playing Nick Fury. Other than that, the actor has starred in a number of noteworthy films.
Among his most well-known films are Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, Oldboy, Kong: Skull Island, Jackie Brown, Snakes on a Plane, Jackie Brown and Jungle Fever. Meanwhile, Perry made his directorial debut with Day Shift, an action-comedy on Netflix starring Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco and Snoop Dogg.
