Three decades after the iconic Bad Boys franchise, Will Smith is reportedly set to reunite with Michael Bay for a Netflix action film. Although a deal is not officially finalised, reports suggest that Bay is in the final stages of negotiations to helm the Netflix action film titled Fast and Loose with Smith as its lead. According to a Deadline report, while the starting date remains uncertain, the film is expected to be the next project for both Hollywood veterans.
The plot of Fast and Loose follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with a complete loss of memory. As he attempts to piece together his identity, he uncovers a startling truth: he has been leading two contrasting lives – one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.
The script of Fast and Loose has been written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson. The film is set to be produced by Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for 87North alongside Smith himself. Moreover, Westbrook Studios Co-President and Head of Motion Pictures Jon Mone and Ryan Shimazaki are in negotiations to produce for Westbrook and James Lassiter. Westbrook was previously involved as a producer on Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
Bay and Smith initially collaborated for the 1995 film Bad Boys, which marked Bay’s feature directorial debut. This action-packed film became a commercial hit and led to three sequels: Bad Boys II, Bad Boys for Life and Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
After their first collaboration, Smith continued to excel in his career, starring in successful films such as Independence Day, I, Robot and Aladdin. He earned Academy Award nominations for his roles in Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness, ultimately winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in King Richard. Smith is set to star in the upcoming Sony Pictures sci-fi thriller Resistor which is based on Daniel Suarez’s 2014 novel Influx.
On the other hand, Bay went on to direct blockbusters like Armageddon (1998) and Pearl Harbor (2001), as well as five films in the Transformers series. Currently, he is in discussions to develop the animated internet meme Skibidi Toilet for TV and film with former Paramount Pictures president Adam Goodman.
