Twinkle Khanna Reflects On Her Postpartum Transformation 'From Hot Chick To A Cow'

Twinkle Khanna, also known as Mrs. Funnybones, recently shared her thoughts on the evolution of motherhood. In her latest column for The Times of India, Twinkle reflected on her journey into motherhood back in 2002 when her son Aarav was born. Married to actor Akshay Kumar since January 2001, the couple also has a daughter named Nitara, who is 11 years old.

Twinkle discussed the contrasts between motherhood during her childhood and the modern-day challenges she faces as a mother. She humorously recounted her transition into motherhood in 2002, narrating an incident where her husband Akshay Kumar jokingly referred to her as ‘milking’, humorously marking her shift from a glamorous figure to a nurturing mother.

She recalled, “My initiation into motherhood began in 2002 when my son was born. This was the time when my husband (Akshay Kumar) told a visitor that I was unavailable because I was ‘milking’ and immediately sealed my transformation from a hot chick to a cow…”

She candidly addressed the pressures and expectations placed on mothers today, emphasizing the delicate balance required between nurturing children and maintaining personal well-being. Twinkle humorously highlighted the demands on modern mothers to breastfeed while preserving their pre-baby physique, engage children positively, and adopt a ‘gentle parenting’ approach as opposed to the more authoritative methods of previous generations.

“We must breastfeed but not have droopy breasts. We must feed them the right combination of nutrients and avoid eating their leftovers to have the waistlines we once had before these creatures turned our wombs into their personal campervans. We must ensure they are entertained, mingle with the right peers, and praise their crooked drawings like we are courtiers bowing to the emperor with no clothes. All this should be accomplished by a method called ‘gentle parenting’, unlike our mothers who ordered us around like army colonels.”

Having ventured into writing after her acting career, Twinkle stepped away from films after a successful stint that included notable movies like Barsaat (1995) and Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001). She transitioned to become a celebrated author, with works such as Mrs. Funnybones (2015), The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad (2016), Pyjamas Are Forgiving (2018), and Welcome to Paradise (2023), showcasing her storytelling prowess and wit.
