Amitabh Bachchan became the third recipient of the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Asha Bhosle.

Amitabh Bachchan took to his Instagram handle on Thursday to share a picture from the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award ceremony, which was held in Mumbai on April 24. The megastar became the third recipient of the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Asha Bhosle.

In the photo that Big B shared, he was seen receiving the award from singer Usha Mangeshkar, the third eldest Mangeshkar sibling. Padmini Kolhapure, Randeep Hooda and AR Rahman were also spotted in the picture. In the caption of his post, Amitabh expressed gratutude to the Mangeshkar family for the award and wrote, “आभार , और मेरा सौभाग्य लता जी के नाम पे पुरस्कार.” Check it out here:

Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award is given every year to an individual for his/her path-breaking contribution towards the nation and society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first recipient of this award in 2022, followed by Asha Bhosle in 2023.

Accepting the award on Wednesday, Amitabh Bachchan remembered Lata Mangeshkar and shared that she always used to shower him with her love and affection. “The respect she bestowed us with is indescribable. I don’t know what it was but there was so much love whenever she would meet me or the members of my family.” It was Lata Mangeshkar who opened the gates for Bachchan to start performing at international shows, he said.

Besides this, Big B also recited a Marathi poem in memory of the melody queen and remembered her as “Goddess Saraswati personified”. The actor revealed that his poems, which were titled “Aakasha Chi Sawri” or “Shadow of the Sky” (in English), were written by him with the help of a friend.

“We call Lord Brahma the sky and the Goddess Saraswati sits next to Lord Brahma. Lata Mangeshkar was Goddess Saraswati personified. She is sitting under the shadow of Lord Brahma. That’s how the title of the poem came to be ‘Aakasha Chi Sawri’,” the 81-year-old said.
