Jitiya 2024: Astrologer Shares Date, Rituals And Significance
Jitiya is celebrated during the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin, typically in September or October, and women fast for the entire day.

Jitiya Vrat, also known as Jitiya or Jitiya Puja, is a well-known Hindu festival primarily observed by women in Bihar and parts of Uttar Pradesh. The festival is dedicated to the well-being and long life of their children.

Celebrated during the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin, typically in September or October, women fast for the entire day and perform various rituals, including offering prayers to the deities and conducting a special puja for their children’s health and prosperity.

This festival symbolises the deep bond between mothers and their children, as well as motherhood and fertility, highlighting the importance of family and new life. It concludes with a feast where family members gather to share a meal, reinforcing the values of devotion, family ties, and the significance of maternal love. This year, Jitiya Vrat will be observed on September 25.

Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal, an astrologer from Deoghar, advises that, in addition to observing all the rituals, mothers should avoid certain mistakes during the puja, as they may negatively affect their child’s well-being.

He shared that during the fast, one must abstain from eating or drinking, and mothers should only break their fast after the Navami Tithi, specifically after Udayatithi. He pointed out that many mistakenly break their fast on Navami Tithi, which he claims renders the fast ineffective.

On the day of Jitiya Vrat, mothers should take a ritual bath and offer water to Lord Surya before completing the puja. Feeding a cow on this day is also essential, as it is believed to bring positive outcomes. Beginning the day with a ritual bath signifies purification and readiness for the day’s observances. It is crucial to perform the puja with a pure mind, speech, and actions. If mothers adhere to these key rituals, their fast will be deemed successful.

Therefore, observing these important measures during the fast not only benefits the children but also brings blessings to the entire family.
