The mayor of a Bulgarian village has offered to pay $680 to a bachelor to marry a nurse who can bring home medical expertise.
Sofia: The mayor of a remote Bulgarian village has offered to pay 1000 levs ($680) to the first bachelor to marry a nurse who can bring some much-needed overnight medical expertise to his home town in the mountains.
Some 500 people live in the poor southwestern village of Fargovo, near the Greek border where two doctors work until 5 pm.
But at night the village must do without any professional medical help and a resident nurse would be a boon.
"Only love can save this village and ensure 24-hour medical help," district Mayor Arben Mimenov said.
Some 12 local men are considered eligible enough for the lucrative award in a village where unemployment is high and average monthly income is just €150.
