VMC staff call off strike

VIJAYAWADA: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation(VMC) Employees, which had been agitating for the past four weeks, called off its agitation on Wednesday following an assurance given by local MP Lagadapati Rajagopal. It may be recalled here that the JAC launched the agitation on March 7 demanding  payment of salaries to the VMC staff under the 010 head. The MP who visited the relay hunger strike camp of the JAC at the municipal corporation office, promised to take the employees’ demands to the notice of the state government and get their salaries paid under the 010 head within three months. The JAC can resume its strike if he fails to fulfil his promise, the MP said.Speaking to Express, JAC convener D Eswar said they called off their agitation following the assurance given by the MP. The JAC which got a written assurance from the MP, also withdrew its indefinite stir plan from April 9, he said. Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu accompanied Rajagopal during his visit to the fast camp.
